One World developed a five-year strategic plan for a large international NGO. A multi-faceted process, the work included research, an all-staff retreat, key informant interviews, a consultation process with local committees and work with the Board and executive committee.

The project scope included:

• Working with a Task Group of Senior Managers and Board Members
• Document review
• Environmental scan
• Design and facilitation of an all-staff retreat, including the preparation of a workbook and a report of the session
• Development of discussion documents to provide opportunities for interactive feedback
• Design and facilitation of a planning session for local committee delegates from across the country
• Drafting of the strategy document
• Design and facilitation of sessions with the Executive Committee and the Board
• Finalizing the strategic plan.

Client: Canadian Cooperative Association

One World designed and facilitated several planning sessions for CCA that explored different facets of its strategic planning process. The first event assisted the organization in assessing and improving the association’s capacity to develop its base. In subsequent meetings, we worked with the Board of Directors, management and staff to assess the capacity to achieve stated business objectives and to develop appropriate plans for improvement.

In 2006/07, we worked with CCA’s domestic team and two Board-appointed committees to develop a National Co-operative Development Strategy and National Co-operative Funding Strategies. We provided input to the visioning and strategic planning processes, as well as facilitated linkages between the work of both committees. The work resulted in CCA’s Co-operative Development Strategy Council recommending a comprehensive Canadian development strategy.

Over the last three years, several meetings have also been held with the International Development program to develop and implement a strategic operations plan.

Client: The Alliance of Sector Councils

The One World team worked with the Alliance of Sector Councils head office to successfully plan, project manage and facilitate a series of annual Community of Practice workshops with four different communities of practice within the Alliance.

The project scope included:

• Facilitation of workshop agenda creation with planning team
• Logistical setup and management of four workshops
• Presenter selection and liaison
• Facilitation and notetaking
• Reporting and follow up.

Client: Public Health Agency of Canada

A series of five two-hour focus group sessions were held to give a small number of Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) managers an opportunity to identify their needs and their concerns regarding the introduction and use of PHAC’s Strategic Plan. External facilitators guided the groups through a series of questions designed to elicit their views on the Plan and their ideas on ways to facilitate discussions of the Plan with members of their staff.

The project scope included:

• Preparatory meetings and review of documentation
• Process design and development of a moderator’s guide, note-taker template and evaluation form
• Facilitation
• Compilation of evaluations, synthesis of meeting notes and writing of one report for all five sessions

Client: Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives

One World provided process design, strategic advice, facilitation, note-taking and report-writing services for the collaborative development of a new Vision and Strategy for the growth and development of Manitoba’s cooperatives. The work included two provincial level consultation meetings with invited stakeholders and a series of working sessions with key stakeholder representatives.

Client: Volunteer Canada

As part of the nationwide “Volunteering and Healthy Aging” project, One World designed and facilitated a series of focus groups aimed at testing new products and marketing approaches that were being developed to educate the Canadian voluntary sector and general public on the many and varied benefits of volunteering to support healthy communities and healthy aging. The focus groups consisted of one face-to-face session and four conducted by teleconference. All were held over a two day period.

Client: Transport Canada

Designed, facilitated and provided ongoing strategic advice to a planning and organizational change process for a unit of Transport Canada. The work included two management retreats and one all-staff retreat.

The One World team worked with PHAC on the planning and facilitation of a two-day planning retreat on the topic of public health and the environment. We prepared a Summary Report, including an analysis of the outcomes and proposed next steps.
